Drop #20: Claude Writes to Microsoft 365, and Reflects on How You Use It

This week Claude picked up two new habits: writing on your behalf and reflecting on how you use it. Anthropic enabled write tools for the Microsoft 365 connector and shipped a monthly usage recap called Reflect.

Claude Can Now Draft and Send Your Email

With write tools enabled by an admin, Claude Enterprise's Microsoft 365 connector moved from read-only to read-write on July 7. Claude can now draft and send email, manage calendar events, update mailbox settings like rules and signatures, and create or update files in OneDrive and SharePoint.

The connector still operates within each person's existing Microsoft 365 permissions, so Claude can't do anything a user couldn't already do themselves, and attachments aren't yet supported in write actions. Write tools are off by default - an organization admin has to turn them on.

Claude Adds a Monthly Recap Called Reflect

Anthropic also introduced Reflect, a beta dashboard at Settings > Reflect that shows the topics you spent time on, your most active day and peak hour, and a short written summary of your month with Claude. It's rolling out on Free, Pro, and Max plans on the web and Claude Desktop.

Alongside Reflect, a new Settings > Time and Focus panel adds optional quiet hours and break reminders that nudge you after a set stretch of use. Both are dismissible - Anthropic frames Reflect as something that suggests, not enforces.

Tip of the Week: Know What You're Authorizing Before You Enable It

Write tools change what Claude is allowed to do inside tools you already trust with sensitive information. Before an admin flips the switch org-wide, it's worth knowing exactly what's in scope.

❌ Weak

Enable write tools for the whole organization the moment IT mentions it, without checking which mailboxes, calendars, or shared drives are included.

✅ Strong

Ask IT to pilot write tools with a small group first, and confirm which actions are still unsupported, like attachments, before trusting Claude with anything customer-facing.

The rule of thumb: Claude can only do inside Microsoft 365 what you could already do yourself - reviewing your own permissions is the fastest way to know what to expect.
